If you haven’t already been able to tell, I’m not a particularly feminine woman. In fact, I wore bike shorts underneath dresses until an embarrassing age. My shoes often don’t match my ensemble and I frequently have to ask my roommate if certain articles of clothing can be worn together. While I’ve always felt comfortable “hanging with the guys” and talking sports over fashion trends there a times you simply must embrace the power of women.
Shannon of Financially Blonde — a true force to be reckoned with — come up with the concept of promoting, supporting and celebrating female bloggers during the month of March, which happens to be Women’s History Month. Shannon recently outlined part of the reason women need to focus on opportunities, such as this one, to support one another in her own post:
For those of you who don’t know, I spent the first thirteen years of my professional life in the heavily male-dominated profession of finance where I worked on trading floors, in hedge funds and as a financial advisor. I never had an issue being a “rose among the thorns” as I was called frequently (this was one of the “g” rated titles I was called that can be posted here), but it didn’t mean that I didn’t learn a number of lessons. And one of the saddest lessons I learned in finance was that you could not always rely on your fellow minority members for support.

Tonya, Budget and the Beach
About: Tonya is a blogger/video editor residing in the sunny paradise of LA. After a series of events (which you can read about here) Tonya found herself in some serious debt and needed to get her financial house in order. She started her blog in 2012 and it’s one of my favorite debt repayment blogs because there are zero pity parties. Plus, she started using her video editing skills to make BATB TV — funny videos about the trials and tribulations of dealing with money.

Fun Fact: Tonya plays and coaches beach volleyball, runs and even started a second site dedicated to helping people stay Healthy, Fit, and Frugal.
Erin, Red Debted Stepchild
About: Erin is one of the most hilarious bloggers in the personal finance realm. She uses PG-13 language at times, loads up posts with GIFs and doesn’t hold back when expressing her opinion (we certainly have that in common). Erin and her husband Steve are also in debt repayment mode, but she’s a former accountant and filled with plenty of sage advice — even if some of it is a “don’t do what I did” example.

Fun Fact: Erin and I are TV soul mates (I think we could have a conversation in TV quotes) and she’s the main reason I started incorporating GIFs into some of my posts.
Stefanie, The Broke and Beautiful Life
About: Stefanie is a fellow New York City dweller but she’s on a mission to live her dream of making a living as an actress. While she’s not auditioning or on stage, Stefanie runs The Broke and Beautiful Life as a valuable resource to those in the acting world, living in NYC or simply looking to make the most of their money. I really admire Stefanie’s immense dedication to her blog, subsequent freelancing and that she’s learning how to code.

Shannon, The Heavy Purse
About: Shannon has been a blogger and woman I look up to since around the time I started my own blog. She is a published author, CFP and on a true mission to make sure everyone is financially literate. While Shannon is a mother and focuses a lot of advice towards parents, she’s far from being a “Mommy Blogger.” I’m already looking forward to seeing the powerhouses her two daughters are certain to become.

Holly, Club Thrifty
About: My favorite thing about Holly is that she doesn’t hold back. You are going to know how she feels about a topic — pretty much any topic. Her series on the Affordable Care Act became one of my favorite I’ve ever read. Holly has transitioned into working as a full-time blogger and openly discusses her career shift. Holly also infuses her writing with what I can only assume is her natural wit and manner of speaking. It’s pretty hilarious.
Favorite Recent Post: Should All Moms be Stay-at-Home Moms?
Fun Fact: Right after I featured Holly in a post about credit card churning and how she and her husband got to travel to Jamaica for $96, their flights got cancelled multiple times due to the Snowpocalypse and it cost them almost $1,500 (well, they recouped some of the losses).
